Realize the Future

WHAT:
Over two days, diverse young people from across the Paris region, supported by mentors from academia, government, third sector, creative industries, and business, will realize the future: both taking stock of where we, as a global collective, are currently headed and proposing ways to imagine and build differently the path ahead.

DAY 1:
We will hold a workshop with Columbia Global Centers | Paris at Reid Hall. In small groups, five young people – paired with two mentors – will tackle one of four major challenges facing humanity and generate potential solutions or new ideas on how to address them. The topics are War, Artificial Intelligence, Climate Emergency, and Inequality. ThinkNation’s “Create, Critique, Iterate” framework will structure the workshop, culminating in a public event where each group summarizes their findings and articulates five resulting action points.

DAY 2:
Young participants will present live on stage. A short Q&A will follow each talk, and the event will be capped by a panel discussion made up of influential young people and experts.

Topics we'll be tackling

Artificial Intelligence

War

Inequality

Climate Emergency

About Columbia Global Centers | Paris

Columbia Global Centers | Paris at Reid Hall is part of a network of nine Centers established by Columbia University in the City of New York in pursuit of its mission to expand Columbia into a global university, engaging in horizontal exchange across borders and sectors. In addition to Paris, the other Centers are located in: Santiago, Rio, Istanbul, Amman, Tunis, Nairobi, Beijing and Mumbai.

Functioning as a network, the Global Centers encourage teaching and research that require interdisciplinary thinking, presence in multiple regions, and engagement with non-Columbia experts and scholars from those regions. Some of the centers’ programs and research initiatives are country-specific, some regional, and an increasing number are multi-regional, even global.

In addition to academic and research initiatives, the public programming offered at the Paris Center draws on the diverse and rich resources of the Columbia Campus, Global Centers network, local institutions, and members of the academic and civil society of Paris and Europe, at large, to create a productive space of intellectual encounter and inquiry.

Mentoring at ThinkNation expanded my insight on what young people want to talk about. As thought leaders, we have a responsibility to listen, learn, and work with young people to find solutions to the tech-related challenges they are inheriting.
